A total of 56.9 million international tourists arrived to Spain in 2011, representing an increase of 8.1 percent over the previous year according to preliminary annual data presented today by the new Minister for Industry, Energy and tourism Jose Manuel Soria.

Britain and Germany continues to occupy the first places with growth of 9.1% and 3% respectively. Relative values show that Italy is 8.5%, Scandinavia 8.4% and France 4.6%.

Canary Islands is the region that has grown most in 2011 with 18.4% followed by Barlarerna with 10.4%, 7.5% Valencia, Andalusia 6% in Catalonia 4.6 per cent and the Region of Madrid has had a decline of 1%.

Spain’s new minister José Manuel Soria believes that the increase denominated travelers to Spain will continue into 2012.
