All police chief who in recent years has led investigations against the Spanish Popular Party has been fired from their posts.

The new head of the National Police Ignacio Cosido has made an almost complete purge, in which ten of the total of 13 top police chiefs has gone. Among them are the police chiefs who coordinated corruption investigations involving the Popular Party, as for instance the case Gürtel and the Palma Arena.

Purge was expected and a similar measure taken by the Spanish PSOE when Socialist Party came to power in 2004 so the police chiefs in the Spanish Policia Nacional who led investigations against the Spanish Popular Party has now been fired.
