New record for Alhambra Granada Spain

Alhambra in Granada has not only maintained its position as Spain’s most visited attraction, last year was another record.

2.310.764 visitors went through the counting gates of the Moorish Alhambra palace in Granada in 2011. It is 6.47 percent more than last year and the highest number of visitors ever. The previous record is from 2000, when 2.241.683 people visited the Moorish palace Alhambra.

A Swiss 18-year-old woman was arrested in January besides the Alhambra of Granada, when she had drawn a heart on a wall in the Alhambra. She was later released, but is now accused of vandalism. It is not the first time that a guest has vandalized the Moorish Alhambra palace in Granada. In August 2011, became an officer from the Jordanian Armed Forces arrested for having written his name on a wall, which cost him 120 euros in fines, and that he had to pay a compensation of 200 euros.
